Who it’s for
- individuals asked by the CRA to send receipts or documents to support a claim

- anyone who wants a second look at their information before submitting it
What’s included
- Reading the CRA letter with you and explaining what it means
- Reviewing your information before you submit it
- Gathering and organizing the documents the CRA has asked for
- Writing and sending the response
- Meeting with the CRA representative on your behalf
- Help with objections if you disagree with an assessment
What to bring
- The CRA letter, and any earlier letters about the same issue
- The return or period they’re asking about, and its Notice of Assessment
- Receipts and records for the items in question
Don’t wait for the deadline. Call as soon as the letter arrives, so there’s time to respond properly.
Watch the deadlines
Every CRA request comes with a date to respond by. If you disagree with an assessment, the time to file a formal objection is limited too. For most individuals it’s 90 days from the date on the notice or one year from the filing deadline, whichever is later. For businesses, it’s usually 90 days.
Missing these dates can limit your options, so it’s worth getting help early.
CRA review questions
Does a CRA letter mean I’m in trouble?
Not necessarily. Many letters are routine reviews asking you to back up a claim with receipts. What matters is answering accurately and on time.
What’s the difference between a review and an audit?
A review is usually a letter asking you to send receipts or details to support something on your return, like medical expenses or childcare. An audit is a more detailed look at your books and records, and it’s more common for businesses. Both deserve a careful, on-time answer.
Can you talk to the CRA for me?
Yes. With your written authorization, I can deal with the CRA on your behalf and meet with their representative.
Can you guarantee the outcome?
No one can. The CRA makes the final decision. What I can do is make sure your response is complete, organized and on time.
